Africam Safari joins the International Program for Preservation of Elephants and makes up a group of four elephants (one male and three females). These land giants, the main characters in hundreds of children’s stories, are waiting for you and your family.

1. Elephants are the biggest land animals in the world.
2. They spend over 16 hours a day eating.
3. They eat 200 kg of food daily.
4. They may live up to 70 years.
5. Their tusks are actually their incisors, which are called defenses and can be 3 m long.
6. The sound they make is called trumpet.
7. They are the only mammals that cannot jump.
8. Their brain is four times bigger than human beings’, for what it is believed they have a great capacity to store information.
9. An adult elephant’s weight can be the same as 100 adult people.
10. Their trunks have the precision to take a coin and the strength to lift a log.
11. Despite their weight and size, they are good swimmers.
12. They have a steady social framework led by the oldest female called matriarch.
13. Their trunk consists of over 3000 muscles.
14. They have a complex communication system based on infrasonic sounds that can be perceived by other elephants within kilometers.
15. During their lifetime, they walk an average distance equivalent to 14 times around the world.
16. They look for areas where they dig wells to tap water to drink or have a bath. When they finish, they leave them open so that other animals can drink water too.
17. Pregnancy lasts 660 days; that is, 22 months.
18. Their trunk is both their nose and upper lip, and is used like a hand to eat, drink, smell, breathe and make noise.
19. Their big ears are good for refreshing, which are moved harder when it is hotter.
20. They walk at 6.5 km/h. When they have to run away or attack an enemy, their speed increases to 40 km/h.
