At Home:

  • When you throw away used oil or chemicals such as cleaners, lubricants or car additives, put them in their own containers or pour them over absorbent tissue before you throw them away. Never throw them in the drainage; you can avoid contaminating rivers.

  • Use biodegradable detergents or soaps (such asZote, Roma, Foca) http://www.sustenta.com/productos/2005/jabones2005.htm  http://www.sirdo.com.mx/amolli.htm

  • Water is vital for our life and the lives of amphibians. In order to avoid wasting it, check regularly the pipes in your house for leakages.

  • Frogs and toads feed on mosquitoes and flies which can cause diseases (dengue, gastroenteritis, yellow fever, etc.), so don’t kill them, catch them or keep them as pets.

  • Don’t apply poisonous pesticides or herbicides in your garden. Use natural products to fertilize your garden and you’ll be preserving your environment.

  • Take care of your health and that of the amphibians. Use you car only when you really need to so you’ll reduce the release of gases that pollute air.

  • Don’t throw too much trash. Divide the organic trash and use it to make compost. Apart from reducing your amount of trash, you will have an excellent and natural fertilizer. http://www.animales-en-extincion.com/composta-que-es.html

  • Divide the trash you produce at home and look for a recycling program to join within your own community. http://www.inare.org.mx/

  • When buying groceries, choose those products that have less wrapping material, that carry an environmental certification or that have been produced in a sustainable way.

  • Batteries release highly contaminating substances after they are trashed. Throw them into special containers, or better, use rechargeable ones. http://ecoabc2.galeon.com
